a violent start to the day in prince georges county. police are now on the scene of a shooting and stabbing on the 23rd 00 block of marlow heights. megan is there with more information. good morning. police confirmed this argument started inside the family restaurant on dallas drive. some kind of an argument among a group of people there. one person was shot, two people were cut. then everything spilled out into the parking lot of this strip mall nearly a 7-eleven here. now, we're told that the injuries are not life threatening, that everyone is going to survive. police have made two arrests in this case. no word on what the fight was about, how it started. two arrests have been made. everyone who was involved in this incident have been accounted for.

good news if you're taking the ramp from eastbound 42, 935 looks to be reopened. i'll show you, this is where we have the tow truck. we have a car that is in the grass in this area. but again, you can continue your commute right now if you want to get on eastbound 32. that is a good thing. earlier, it was shut down. on the beltway, have a report of an accident. also, i want to show you congestion. taking 270, you know this road and how it gets around this time of day, heading out of urbana, pretty slow. once you get to clarksburg, the road opens up and so far, no delays. coming out of dell city making your way north, both directions on 95 in virginia, no accidents. and so far, you're still traveling at a good speed. i'm back in ten minutes with another update. right now, u.s. futures are falling ahead of this morning's much anticipated jobs report.

they're doin' more than 20 points. european and asian stocks both rose overnight. this comes after the european central bank announced aggressive liquidity measures to help send off a financial crisis. this morning, we'll have a better idea of how the economy is doing when the september jobs report is released. economists say they expect the report will likely show a fifth straight month of slight or no job creation. the survey says employers created a net 55,000 new jobs last month. the report will be released at 8:30 this morning. president obama is pushing his jobs bill. the president told the press that the demonstrations give a voice to broader frustrations sweeping the country over how the financial system has become. he says the proposal is to tax the most wealthy americans. as critics say the president is not focused on jobs any more. >> mr. president, why have you given up on the country and

decided to campaign full time instead of doing what the american people sent us all here to do? proposing a partisan tax hike 13 months before an election won't create one single job. >> the senate plans to vote on a revised version of the president's $450 billion plan next week. that includes a surcharge on millionaires. the longest war in u.s. history has reached a new milestone ten years ago today. american forces began their assault on the taliban in afghanistan. about 98,000 u.s. troops remain in the country today. the war's former top commander retired army general mcchrystal says the war has dragged on because the u.s. military had a quote detroiteningly simplistic understanding of afghanistan and its culture when it invaded. 6:05 now. a virginia found a virginia woman guilty for killing her 2-year-old granddaughter. carmella de-larosa was charged with murder. last november, she threw her

granddaughter off a sky walk at tyson's corner square mall. prosecutors say this was a calculated incident wheel her defense team tried to argue she was mentally ill. >> there are no winners in a case like this. there's no joy. i'm not happy. i'm sad. >> i'm a criminal defense lawyer. i respect the jury process, although idy agrees with their verdict. 35 years is an odd number. i thought they would do one extreme or the other, but that's what they chose. >> the judge will sentence delarosa on november 26th. he can reduce the sentence, but cannot add more years to it. mike leggitt says his county needs more than three times the money it's been allotted in order to pay for construction projects. the county received $2.8 million to start improvements to rockville pike and the streets around the new walter reed

memorial center. the county needs $14 million more to pay for the improvement and even that may not be enough, he says. most of the money will get to road improvements to try to improve the traffic flow. metro riders should expect major delays over this holiday weekend. shaw, u-street and columbia heights for track work. stations were shut down at 10:00 tonight and they'll open on tuesday morning after the holidays. shuttle buses will operate between mt. vernon square and the georgia avenue station. crews will be working on the dulles rail stens extension project. those two stations will shut down at 10:00 tonight and they'll reopen on monday morning. 6:07 now, 54 degrees. no one likes going to the dmv. the reason for why you can put off that trip this weekend. and an awards winning film director who wants to cast first lady michelle obama in a new

welcome back. it's 6:14. the parents of a missing baby in missouri are preparing to talk this morning after police say the two are not cooperating in the investigation. we've been cooperating from day one and we continue to assist the police with the investigation. the main goal has always been to find lisa and bring her home. a family member read that written statement last night from deborah bradley and jeremy irwin shortly after kansas city police say the two had stopped talking with detectives. police say they're shutting down their command post near the family's home. the couple claims someone snatched the 10-month-old lisa irwin from her home. amanda knox is erroredly being flooded with hate mail and threats following her acquittal. the 24-year-old washington student and her family left italy immediately after an appeals court threw out the conviction in the stabbing death of her roommate, meredith

kercher. her family says they've received some calls threatening to her her, but would not go into any details. knox is reportedly in hiding with her mother and other family members outside of seattle. a father's quick thinking is being credited for saving his daughter. his car's engine caught fire and he jumped into action, pulling his daughter out before the fire spread. firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire, but the fire was destroyed. drivers in virginia won't be able to get or renew licenses for a few days. the state dmv says it cannot issue them this weekend because the social security administration is doing maintenance to the system. 6:16 is the time. today, the d.c. council will examine the district grass cutting contracts after two

editorials this week question why grey's administration took a bid that was more expensive. the grey administration says it was trying to promote local businesses. two contracts were awarded. the hearing is intended to clarify how those contracts were awarded. and we have a traffic alert for drivers in the district. you'll notice major clajs this weekend. vdot is about to open a new flyover ramp that will cave 295 southbound traffic over a new interchange being built for the 11th street bridge. southbound lanes will be shifted to the new flyover ramp gradually between midnight tonight and tomorrow afternoon. to do that, crews will close exit ramps from pennsylvania avenue and the outbound 11th street bridge to southbound 295 beginning at 10:00 tonight. there will be 20-minute stoppages in traffic tonight between midnight tonight and 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. it is now 6:17.

prince harry will arrive in the u.s. next week to begin a two-month military training course. the prince will take a helicopter training class to prepare him for combat. he'll fly apache helicopters in the california desert. the training ends at an air force station in arizona where he'll learn to fire missiles, rockets and cannons from the chopper. prince harry will be one of 20 students taking the course. this class is the final phase of a 16-month training british army pilots undergo to prepare for deployment. muggels have been waiting years to do it. harry potter's studio tour will begin next week. tans can recapture the movie by going on tour of the sets. it features a three-hour tour in england. tickets go on sale thursday but fans won't be able to take the set tours until next spring.

way to the district through hundreds of protesters. this morning, they are camped out at freedom plaza, preparing for the second day of demonstrations and more are expected to join them. melissa joins us live from freedom square with more. >> good morning. you can take a look here behind me. hundreds of people camped out overnight. some of them have been here for a couple of days now. they plan to be here until sunday, but they are getting ready for today's events. joining me right now is the organizer of 2011. this is margaret flours. wh what is your greatest hope? you guys have been working on this for a long time. what's your greatest hope for today? >> our greatest hope is that this is the beginning of something that's an independent transformational nonviolent movement in this country to really start changing the way things are done here so that we start meeting our human needs

>> melissa, thank you. and the protesters will have some company weekend at the popular street festival returns to d.c. the taste of d.c. is making a come back after an almost eight-year hiatus. but the food festival is setting up right next to the protesters. hundreds of local restaurants along with a beer tent and culinary stage will be set up on pennsylvania avenue and 14th street. that means you can expect major delays in the area. taste of d.c. begins tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and runs through monday at 6:00. the interior secretary says he will address the controversy surrounding the martin luther king memorial. he and the national parks service will talk about the issue after the memorial's dedication next week. author mya angelo first brought attention to the issue. the original quote was, if you want to say i was a drum major, say that i was a drum major for

good morning. welcome back. we have breaking news out of prince georges county. police are on the scene of a shooting and stabbing that left three people injuries. this happened in the 2300 block ott dallas drive and marlow heights. good morning, megan. >> good morning, joe. it looks like this investigation is starting to wind down here. if you take a look behind me, you can see that most of the police officers have left the scene. they've driven away in the last few minutes. those who remains here are inside the family restaurant and that's where this argument and the violence broke out early this morning. according to police, there was some kind of an altercation inside the restaurant. and weapons were pulled. one person was shot, two people were slashed. then it spilled out into the parking lot that the restaurant shares with a 7-eleven here on dallas drive. what we're being told by police is they're not sure exactly what the argument was about, but that

police say all the people involved have been accounted for. and is, again, we had one person who was shot, two people who were cut. now everyone is spicketed to survive. two were hospitalized. one was treated here on the scene and police have made two arrests in this incident. so they are not looking for any suspects. they believe, again, that everyone involved has been accounted for. they're still trying to put together exactly what happened and why. now, in terms of when the shopping center will reopen, we're not quite sure. the whole area is still cordened off. they're starting to wright things up here. we're seeing a big movement, a lot of the officers leaving and going back to regular duties. >> megan mcgrath reporting live, thanks very much. police believe the man who attacked two women near the metro station struck a third time. all three women were attacked going to or leaving the metro station. police say this attack happened back on september 19th near a

7-eleven on silver hill road. the suspect grabbed a woman and forced her inside the store to withdraw cash for him. instead, she called police and he ran off. police are warning women to be very careful when traveling around the station to call 911 if you see anything suspicious. decision 2012 coverage now, republican presidential candidate herman cain will spend time today in northern virginia. cain will appear at a book signing. the former ceo of godfather's pizza won his second straw poll over the weekend. also today, house speaker john boehner will speak at the values voters summit here in the district. the summit is an annual event from conservative voters. mitt romney, rick perry, herman cain, ron paul and newt beginning rush. vice president joe biden says the republican party is

to sleep anytime soon. a lot of these protesters along freedom plaza were resting in their bags and their tents. others, though, like i mentioned, ready and awake for this big day's event. take a look at this video from yesterday. 3,000 protesters walked along kay street. they paraded past the white house and chamber of commerce. they say they have lost faith in the country's political system. they worry about corporate greed and the growing disparity between the rich and the poor here. one more protest is scheduled for noon today. they have permits that allow them to stay here at freedom plaza. another group over at mcpherson square, they can stay until sunday. some say they absolutely man to do that. melissa live on freedom plaza for us, thank you. here are the morning's top stories. three women won the nobel piece prize work for women's rights.
